Because Anna apparently still desperately needs a Beatles education, some key tracks:
I Feel Fine:
Ticket to Ride:
Penny Lane:
Revolution:
Something: (warning: Paul in this video may give you nightmares. But all of the other couples are totally cute.)

They made a video that was basically “These are the women in our lives, aren’t they awesome”? That’s so cool!
!
In actual serious commentary (as much as I can pull off at 3:30 a.m.), being culturally illiterate is a big thing. Like, in order to understan the bulk of “Literature” (with the Capital-L and all that jazz) you need to be aware of biblical narratives and greek/roman mythology. Being out of touch with cultural touchstones, like the Beatles, means that often one is running into reference one just doesn’t get - and often don’t realise how much you’re not getting them.
For me, I’ll notice that Beatles references are being made, but not really get what the point is. (This happens a lot on the Simpsons, or did when I was watching it. I knew the episode with Homer in the Barbershop Quartet was doing a lot with the Beatles, but didn’t get all of it.) Or, the Barenaked Ladies song “Be My Yoko Ono”. I didn’t get it. But it was catchy. Cultural touch stones, big deal.
Yeah, I think there was a point in there someplace.
Hey! They play their own instruments and everything. (Yes, I know you said that in the first post, but they really do! Not like New Kids On The Block at all! I may have to have words with my mother.)

OF COURSE they played their own instruments! They were some of the most influential musicians and songwriters of the past century! When it came to instruments alone, George was utterly brilliant! John, Paul and George all played multiple instruments and taught themselves! They’re studied in music theory classes! Ahhhh.

…
You should get together with Don. He despairs of my musical illiteracy as well.
Me: So, like, Jimi Hendrix? What was up with that?
Him: How did you get this way? What did you do wrong?
Me: Hey! I’d like to point out you haven’t read anything by Jane Austin yet!
Him: YOUR BROTHER IS A MUSICIAN!*
Me: Does he play Jimi Hendrix? I’ll be so embarassed if he does.
Him: *headdesk*
Yeah, so after that we stopped talking about music. Maybe I should ask him again….
(*My brother plays in the Vancouver symphony.)

I’m not exactly a Jimi Hendrix fan, but these conversations crack me the fuck up.
Oh, and now that I’ve calmed down, yes, the Something video is pretty cool. Even though I can’t figure out why Paul looks so much like a serial killer. Linda is lovely though!
